Post Graduation department in Instrumentation & Control at PREC has a superlative research culture with faculty members publishing 97 papers in reputed journals till date.


Instrumentation and Control Engineering is a branch of an engineering that deals with measurement and control of process parameters, and the design and implementation of systems that incorporate them. Process parameters include pressure, temperature, humidity, flow, pH, force, speed etc. It is an interdisciplinary branch which is fusion of electrical, chemical, mechanical, electronics, communication and computer engineering. Study focus on the research, design and development of control devices and systems. Instrumentation and Control Engineers actively participate in designing, calibration and testing, operating and maintaining systems in the field of Instrumentation and Control Engineering and allied industries. They are trained to solve problems in the field of commercial, residential, biomedical, agriculture and industrial automation by applying the knowledge of Instrumentation and Control Engineering.

The department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering started with UG in 1985 and PG with specialization in Process Instrumentation in 2002, to fulfil burning requirement of technical manpower for industry. The department has well equipped laboratories and consists of highly qualified and eminent faculty members with vast experience. Faculty members and students have published and presented research papers in peer reviewed conference/ journals at national and international levels. The department have produce 19 university rankers in the Savitribai Phule Pune University examinations. Various activities such as seminars, quiz competitions, group discussions, technical paper presentations, invited industrial experts talks, value addition courses, mock interviews and sports activities are being carried out under the Student Association of Instrumentation Engineering (SAIE). Most of the students are placed in national and multinational industry.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Graduates would demonstrate ability to,

  • Provide innovative, feasible, economical and socially relevant solutions to engineering problems, based on analysis, designing and development to maintain the standards using software and hardware platforms.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

  • PSO1: Analyze dynamics of process control systems, select/implement sensors/transducers and controllers to ensure the performance, safety and quality of the processes through measuring, monitoring and designing of automated systems.
  • PSO2: Develop mathematical model, validation of model, design and tuning of the controller for process control systems and its realization usingDCS, PLC, SCADA and MATLAB.

Program Outcomes


Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and instrumentation and control engineering to the solution of complex engineering problems.


Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex instrumentation and control engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.


Design solutions for complex instrumentation and control engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.


Use research based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.


Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex instrumentation and control engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.


Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess society, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the instrumentation and control engineering practice.

Department has received grant of Rs. 8.8 Lakhs under TAPTECH for Modernization of Process laboratory.

Achievements by the Students
  • A project on PLC Based Canal Automation and Ship Transportation of Mr. Ajinkya Kumthekar, Mr. Balraj Jadhav and Mr. Mangesh Tarte, final year students received sponsorship of Rs. 1 Lakh in National Level Automation Project Competition by Mitsubishi Electric Cup, Eco Imagination through Smart Manufacturing.
  • Miss Varsha Ghule of TE has received Scholarship from Cummins India.
  • Many students completed their higher studies from reputed universities.
  • Most of the alumni are working world wide in multinational industries.
  • 23 students are placed through campus interviews in Honeywell Automation Ind. Ltd, Emerson’s Process Ltd, i-PAC Automation, DVS Technosoft Pvt. Ltd, and RS Industech Pvt. Ltd. etc.
  • 45 students have participated in the national/international seminars, workshops, conferences, technical events and paper presentations.

    • Department have developed and organized value addition courses on MATLAB, LaTex, PLC and SCADA.
    • SEED InfoTech, Pune has conducted one week personality development program for TE and BE students in college.
    Curriculum and extra curriculum activities
    • Student Association of Instrumentation Engineer (SAIE) organize different activities such as guest lectures, engineer’s day, teacher’s day , group discussion, debate and fare well to outgoing students for development of their interpersonal skills.
    • Department has organized one industrial visit per semester per class.
