Overview

The School Campus is spread over an area of over 37 acres. It houses the main School Building, New School Building, Staff Quarters, Director’s Bungalow, Hostels, and other academic, sports and games infrastructure. Besides there is a football ground, Athletics ground and a swimming pool.

Facilities

School Building

The main School building is an imposing two-storeyed structure. On the ground floor, it houses the Library, Computer Section, Art and Craft Halls, Mathematics, Geography Lab, Audio-Visual room and some classrooms Laboratories of Biology, Physics and Chemistry Departments, Reading Room and Information Room are situated on the first floor. While additional classrooms occupy the side wings, the junior wing classes (KG to Std IV) are held in a separate Primary block.

Science and Technology Activities

School is participating in many science and technology exhibitions , like Taluka level, District level, State level, and National level science Exhibitions.

In 2013-14 one of our student participated in National Level Science Exhibition at New Delhi under INSPIRE award.[ Pragati Maidan, New Delhi]

School Building

The main School building is an imposing two- storeyed structure. While, secondary classes and the junior wing classes (KG to Std IV) are held in a new school building.

Information Technology

The School has two well-equipped and well-maintained computer labs and ICT Lab with internet connectivity round the clock. Computer education is compulsory from Std I onwards. All the faculty members are trained in digital lesson planning and Power Point Presentations under Intel Teach to the Future Programme. Senior students are encouraged to use internet and e-mail facilities under supervision.

CCTV Cameras

All classrooms and their corridors have CCTV Cameras installed to monitor every activity of students.

School Library

The school library is well-stocked with over 7000 titles. A large number of newspapers, periodicals and magazines mainly in English are available in the library. All efforts are made to inculcate proper reading habits among children. Library periods have been included in the time table in order to encourage better utilisation of library facilities.

Mess

The school mess has a modern kitchen, store rooms and two well-furnished and spacious dining halls. The diet has been drawn up by experts so as to provide proper nutrition to growing children, to stimulate growth and maintain good health. As per medical advice given by the School Doctor, special diet including extra milk, fruits etc are given to children who fall ill. The menu committee, consisting of the Housemasters and Prefects and presided over by the Director, meets at least once a quarter to review changes in menu. Constant watch is maintained to have a menu as varied, well balanced and appetising as possible.

Water Filtration Plant

The school has ample supply of water and has a water filtration plant of international standards which supplies purified water throughout the campus. The plant has the capacity of 24,000 litres per hour.

Infirmary

A qualified and experienced Doctor resides on the School Campus and looks after the health of the children. The Doctor is assisted by a trained nurse and an attendant. A paediatrician from Pravara Rural Hospital visits the school twice a week. The School maintains a 20 bedded infirmary/sick room. Children suffering from minor ailments are admitted to the infirmary to segregate them from healthy students. In case of emergency, boys are admitted to Pravara Rural Medical College Hospital, Loni where specialists and consultants are available. All students are required to undergo a thorough medical check-up once in a year and minor remedial treatments are arranged when required or parents are advised about the need for further follow-up. There is also provision of yearly dental check up and for referring children to Dental College Hospital, Loni for remedial dental care.

Games and Sports

Games and sports play a definite role in the development of a child’s personality. Therefore, regular games and physical training are compulsory for all students.

A modern swimming pool with filtration plant is maintained. Under the watchful eyes of qualified coaches, all students are given opportunities to learn and practise swimming. Adjoining the main pool, a baby pool also is available for initiating the children.

Sports and Outdoor Infrastructure

Swimming Pool , Gymnasium , Standard Obstacle Course, Athletics- 400 Meters track & field, Basketball Courts, Cricket Ground, Football Field, Hockey Field, Kho Kho Court, Vollyball Courts, Badminton Court, Table Tennis, Kabbadi.

NCC and Scouts

A junior Division (Army) troop of National Cadet Corps (NCC) functions in the School. Boys and Girls of thirteen years and above are eligible to join NCC. Boys with aptitude for outdoor adventure are sent to Uttarkashi for Basic Course in Mountaineering at Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. Besides NCC, Scouts and Guides units also exist in the school.

Yoga, Meditation and Aerobics

To inculcate values like patience, and tolerance, the school has included yoga and meditation in the school curriculum. Students learn to practise yoga, meditation and aerobics to improve their concentration and physical fitness as well under expert guidance. Karate training is also being imparted to Primary Boarder Students.

Hobbies

Hobbies encouraged in the school are gardening, study of birds, plants and insects, carpentry, numismatics, clay modelling, philately, drawing and painting, music and folk dance. With a view to giving them greater opportunities and scope for self-expression, students are encouraged to cultivate and nurture hobbies. It also helps them in spending their leisure time in a purposeful and healthy manner.

General Knowledge and Value Education

The School has a well-graded scheme for imparting General Knowledge and Value Education. Two examinations in G.K. and V.E. are conducted every year. Students are also encouraged to appear for examinations / tests conducted by outside agencies such as IPSC / State Govt. / Science Olympiad. For Higher Secondary Section, NEET and JEE Coaching Classes are conducted. Information/ General Knowledge Room has been established in the school.

Atal Tinkering Laboratories

Reaching the need to create and foster scientific temper and innovation among young minds the Government of India has set up the Atal Innovation Mission at NITI AAYOG. AIM intends to support establishment of Atal Tinkering Laboratories in 500 Schools across the country.

Pravara Public School is one or the 257 schools selected for establishment of ATL. Total of twenty (20) lakh Rs. one time establishment of upto Rs. 10 lakh would be given to our school in the first year for buying instruments and equipments required for ATL. Another 10 lakh would be provided over a maximum period of 5 years for operation, maintenance, etc.

Daily Routine

The House System

Boarders live in spacious dormitories of various Houses. The Houses are of three categories to accommodate students of different age groups/ classes viz, Primary Houses ( I – V ), Junior Houses (VI and VII) and Senior Houses (VIII to XII). The Senior & Junior Houses are looked after by Housemasters who are senior members of the teaching staff.

They look after the welfare and discipline of the boys. They keep track of boys’ academic progress, co-curricular activities etc. and are in close touch with them and the parents. The Junior houses and Primary houses are under the care of experienced full time matrons assisted and guided by teaching staff.

The house system helps to foster healthy rivalry in academic work, sports and various co-curricular activities.

The organisation of residential life in the system also helps to promote family atmosphere, team spirit and provides ample opportunities for shouldering responsibilities.

Inter House Competitions

Various inter house competitions are held as per the school calendar. Inter House matches (for different age groups) are held in all disciplines of sports and games.

The Annual Aquatic meet, Athletic Meet and Sports Day are highlights of the year’s competitions.

In addition, inter House competitions are held in various co-curricular activities (CCA). All these inter House contests help to develop team spirit, competitiveness, sportsmanship and the desire to excel in various fields.

The House which tops the overall tally, is awarded the coveted “Cock House Cup”. The House which excels in academics is presented the “Academic Cup”.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCA)

Co-curricular activities are designed to develop latent talents fully and enable the children to learn to spend their leisure time in an acceptable and useful manner. A well graded programme for co-curricular activities has been made in the time table for CCA periods. The CCA programmes are conducted class wise for juniors and house-wise for seniors.

Hobby Clubs

The school has newly introduced a variety of hobby clubs from this year. The aim of these clubs is to provide an opportunity to the students to explore their strengths and interests in various fields and also to use their leisure time fruitfully. It is one of the major initiatives of our new director Col (Dr) K Jagannathan. He wants the children to be provided with avenues to improve their creativity and develop holistically. The clubs function for one hour on all Wednesdays. The activities are coordinated and facilitated by Mr A R Sayyed.

The following club activities have been introduced in the school:-

Bird Watching: The birds, their habitats and various aspects are discussed. Photographs, videos on birds are shown to the members. This club has gained popularity with 40 members. They recently made an overnight trip to the bird sanctuary at Nandur Madhmeshwar. Mr S. R. Pradhan is the resource person of this club.

Astronomy : It is a great way to get interested in star gazing and thinking about the cosmos. In this club participants are introduced to many constellations and celestial bodies. Videos and pictures of celestial bodies are shown and discussed. A visit to Nehru Planetarium is on the cards. Mr. S. S. Zoting takes keen interest in this club with 44 members.

Dramatics- English and Marathi: It is a home to all the theatre lovers and enthusiasts interested in developing acting and stage skills. It acquaints them to the literature and provides them a platform to showcase their talents. Mr. Aher T.V. and Mr. S. V. Godge teach the finer aspects in English and Marathi respectively.

Pottery: Pottery is an excellent art form to explore one’s creativity using clay and is an excellent medium for self - expression. The newly procured potter’s wheel has drawn many enthusiasts to this hobby. Mr. S.T. Tupe adds value to this hobby

Art and Craft:It provides the participants with creative, inspiring and fun art projects. It explores the creative development of a child.Mr. S. T.Tupe and Mrs. S. Y. Datir has a great contribution.

Mathematics and Science: These clubs try to stimulate a spirit of curiosity, enquiry and innovation and creativity among participants through activities which supplement conventional education and make science and mathematics enjoyable and interesting.

Tinkering Club: Tinkerers use real tools and real materials in a safe and closely supervised environment. They have attempted to make technological solutions to common problems under the guidance of Mr. P. D. Bhavsar.

Music and Tabla: The club fosters unity through music listening, practicing and performances. Mr. Gavhane and Mr. D .S. Deshmukh share their skills with the children.

Yoga: Yoga education helps in self discipline and self control leading to immense amount of, concentration among the participants. It aids to increase health awareness Ms. Jyoti guides the young yoga enthusiasts.

Public Speaking: The club aims at providing practical skills necessary to express themselves clearly, with confidence in a variety of speaking situations. There are 38 participants. Mrs. Ambade guides the children in the art of public speaking. Change of Mission Statement. The School changed its mission statement after deliberations and discussions with all stakeholders.

The new mission statement is as under:- In- house Training for Teachers The school organized a faculty development programme for the teaching staff during the summer vacation. The first training capsule commenced on 1st April and concluded on 30th April. The second and third capsules of training were conducted from 6th to 15th June 2019. The teachers, esp. the newly inducted teachers learnt and felt well equipped to take on the new session with more confidence and knowledge

Pastoral Care

The House Tutors is designed to help students attain academic excellence, sensitize them to the environment which includes the community & cope with various emotional experiences.

The Primary School

The Grade Teachers of each grade and section are directly responsible for the well-being of their students. The counselor plays a significant part in maintaining discipline, and overall psychological well-being, by the process of counseling, giving guidance to the teachers for management of classroom discipline and understanding psychological needs of the students. The PYP Coordinators oversee the whole program.

The Senior School

Pravara Public School has four Houses Shivaji, Netaji, Tanaji, and Sardar Patel (SP) . Students and teachers are divided equally between these.

Each House is headed by a Housemaster, Junior Housemaster and wardens who are responsible for the implementation of the Pastoral system for the respective House. The Housemaster will be the first point of contact for parents and teachers for any concerns related to the tutee.

The Housemaster interacts with the tutees every day, takes attendance, checks their grooming, meets them for lunch and meets them for an hour every week, which is part of the weekly routine. This time is used to enquire about their well-being, academic performance, extra - curricular activities and any other emotional concern. Housemaster will have additional responsibility with regard to the boarders, in terms of study hour supervision, academic support, evening sports, meal supervision and weekend activities.

The Co-ordinator, is responsible for the overall implementation of the Pastoral System.
