About Department
The Department of Automobile Engineering, established in 2007, has steadily grown to align itself with the evolving needs of the automotive industry. Initially focused on preparing professionals for conventional vehicle design, manufacturing, and maintenance, the department now embraces the global transformation of mobility. With transportation remaining central to economic and social development, automobile engineers are increasingly expected to innovate in areas such as electric and hybrid technologies, autonomous systems, and smart mobility solutions that respond to the demands of sustainability and digitalization.
The three-year diploma program provides students with a strong foundation in traditional automotive engineering while incorporating recent industry trends. Alongside core knowledge of engines, vehicles, and servicing, the curriculum emphasizes electric and hybrid vehicle systems, autonomous and connected mobility, sustainable engineering practices, and digital manufacturing aligned with Industry 4.0. Students are trained in lightweight materials, fuel-efficient systems, alternative energy sources, and advanced CAD/CAM simulations, ensuring they are prepared for both conventional automotive roles and emerging opportunities in green mobility and intelligent transport systems.
The department is equipped with modern laboratories for EV testing, CAD/CAM design, and engine diagnostics, supported by highly qualified faculty with expertise in both classical and advanced technologies. Regular seminars and workshops are conducted with industry leaders and alumni, focusing on topics such as electric mobility, artificial intelligence in transport, and sustainable engineering. Industrial visits to manufacturing plants, R&D centers, and EV startups provide students with practical exposure, while innovation-driven projects and research activities strengthen their academic and professional readiness.
On successful completion of the diploma program, students are well positioned for diverse career paths across the evolving automotive ecosystem. They may join national and multinational companies in design, manufacturing, R&D, and EV development, enter government organizations such as MSRTC and RTO, or work in insurance and regulatory bodies as vehicle surveyors and safety auditors. Many diploma holders choose entrepreneurship, establishing ventures in EV charging infrastructure, vehicle dealerships, service stations, or consultancy firms, while others continue their academic journey through higher education, specializing in areas such as electric vehicles, autonomous systems, and sustainable transport. In this way, the Department of Automobile Engineering ensures that its students are not only industry-ready but also future-ready, capable of contributing to innovation and sustainability in the global automotive landscape.
