The faculty of Commerce was established in 1971 with the sole aim of providing commercial education to the rural students. In the year of establishment, the faculty had just 20 students and one staff member. This picture has totally changed now. At present 460 students are pursuing their studies at undergraduate, post graduate and research level under the able guidance of 7 teachers. With the increase in students' strength and considering the future requirements, steps have been taken to widen the infrastructure facilities and create an ambience for excellent teaching, learning and other personality development activities of the learners. 4 staff members are Ph.D., 3 are M.Phil., 2 are NET and 2 are SET. The college offers 3 Career Oriented Certificate courses at U.G. level, along with Insurance Sales Advisor Course by MSSDs affiliated to the Government of Maharashtra. P.G. and research facilities enable the students to scale academic heights in the same campus. In addition to conventional methods of teaching; charts, internet, LCD are also used as and when required. Field studies and excursions are arranged to acquaint students with the practical knowledge. Feedbacks from the students reflect the scope for further improvement. Debating competitions, educational tours, assignments and project works are helpful for independent learning. The subject knowledge of students is evaluated through internal tests, assessment of practical and project work. Final evaluation is through the University examinations conducted at the end of each semester for P.G. courses. For U.G., annual pattern is followed. All teachers actively participate in research activities. Commerce department is recognized as Research Center by Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. There are 3 research guides in the department. So far 23 students have got their doctoral degree and 14 students are pursuing Ph.D. 1 major and 10 minor research projects are completed. The staff members have also published 68 research papers in the National and International journals. The faculty also organizes workshops, seminars or conferences, guest lectures and lecture series to keep abreast in various fields. 2 seminars, 3 workshops and 20 guest lectures are organized in the last five years.
